I ordered this for my sister and then spent a week trying to talk myself out of keeping it. The books are properly bound, not little blocks with a printed spine.

I assumed the covers would be printed card and the inside would be blank. They open, and there is real text on the pages.

Twenty five ornaments by Christmas Day, and a bookcase to put them back in for next year. It is the only advent calendar I have kept.

What is inside
What is inside
A carved miniature bookcase with a glass fronted door. Open it and the whole inside is a grid of twenty five numbered drawers, five across and five down.
Each drawer holds one tiny hardback, wrapped and waiting. Open one a day from the first of December.

The books
The books
They are proper little books, not blocks with a spine printed on the side. Real covers, real board, and real pages that turn.
Each one is around six centimetres tall, so a single book sits in your palm and the whole set fits in one hand.

After Christmas
After Christmas
Every book has a thin gold cord through the corner, so once it is opened it goes straight on the tree.
By Christmas Day you have twenty five ornaments and a bookcase to keep them in until next December.

Twenty five ornaments by Christmas Day
Every book comes on a gold cord. Open one a day, hang it on the tree, and by the twenty fifth the tree is full of them.
Then they go back in the bookcase until next December.
What readers say
-
Worth it for the packaging alone
Opened the door and actually said oh out loud. The drawers are tight and neat and the numbers are properly printed, not stickers.

-
Worth the wait, but it was a wait
Took a little under three weeks to arrive, so order early if it is a gift. The calendar itself is better than I expected.

-
My book club fought over it
Brought it along as a talking point and left with three people asking where I got it. The covers are lovely.
Sophie L.
-
Smaller than I pictured, in a good way
They are genuinely tiny. A whole book sits inside a matchbox. Much more delicate than I expected.

Lovely, one drawer stiff
One drawer needed a firm pull the first time and then loosened up. Still the nicest thing I have bought this Christmas.

Replaced our chocolate one
We have done a chocolate calendar every year and it is gone by January. This one we will still have when the kids are grown.
